Note to future self

Dear future Faith, do you remember this day? When you were up at 2 am with nothing to do? You were in bed all day the previous day, and you had searched high and low for sleep but it would not come to you. You listened to music but it hadn’t quite tired you out yet. And there you were, over thinking as you sometimes did.

Future Faith, remember that you always tried to tell yourself everything happens for a reason? That anything that comes your way CAN be handled? That God has so much faith in you that he lets things that you don’t understand come your way? Well weren’t you right? Didn’t it all just make you strong? Didn’t it make you depend on God more?

You stayed up and you got tempted to look behind, instead of driving forward. You glanced at the rear view mirror and got tempted to stare. Well how can you drive while staring at the rear view mirror? It is only okay to glance, but not to stare; look where you’re going! You’re past all those mistakes you made! You learned from them, you looked forward and you continued with your journey, well, didn’t it pay off?

Why were you so scared of the future? If you will get good enough grades in your next academic year. Or if the subject you’ve picked to major in will be the right choice. What kind of job you will get (if ever you get one). If you will you ever find someone who will accept you, flaws and all. If you’ll make any progress in your Christian life or if you’ll be stuck in the same position. Why did you worry if you’ll somehow pick up all the old habits you gave God to deal with? Ain’t they all in God’s sea of forgetfulness where they are thrown and remembered no more? Why were you out there fishing for them?

Here is my note to you, future faith. Here is a reminder that God has got you, he holds you in his arms, and you don’t go seeking for him, that’s his job! Here’s a reminder that the little thing you worried about (I bet you don’t even remember what it is now!) wasn’t worth the worry. Remember your favorite verse, Jeremiah 29: 11? Why did you have little faith in your God?

Your mistakes, your scars, your imperfections, they are all little broken pieces that when put together, make one big beautiful picture. Do not worry about them. The mistakes you made, yes, when you looked back, you regretted, and were those tears that fell from your eyes? Did you shut your eyes so tight in hopes that it will all go away? Was that your heart breaking? But don’t you see, it just taught you what NOT to do. You were human… you ARE human and you make mistakes. You can’t always get it right. It’s okay. God understands. Now, smile for me. God’s grace will cover for you, and like Samson, you can say, “just once more Lord!” and he will hold your hand and lead you through.

Let it all go. Do not complain about the path you are on. Remember it is all for a reason.  It will all be worth it and you’ll understand it all by and by.

Dear future Faith, I sincerely hope you are happy.

I hope you let go and you just let God lead.

Remember, you can’t do it on your own.

All my love.

-Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) – Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

-Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT) –  For I know the plans I have for you,” says theLord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
